THE BIGGEST OPPORTUNITY . . . EVER.
15 05 2008so i was reading angry asian man today when i came across the biggest opportunity ever . . . well almost ever, but it seems as if the Fates themselves drew my name out of a hat and are about to give me the grand door prize . . . here are the details:
::: the filming for transformers 2 has begun
———>i promise you readership, i love transformers more than anyone else you know.
::: michael bay is looking for extras
———>paid extras!
::: they are looking for ASIAN men and women, boys and girls, age 7-65
———>that’s me damn it!
::: and they are filming early june 2008 in bethlehem, PA
———->that’s only an hour away from where i live!
there’s only draw back . . . i would have to play a Chinese person. i got nothing against my Chinese brothers and sisters . . . but i am not Chinese, but get mistaken for it quite often. my cousin just found out that i’m actually Japanese-Korean american, and not Japanese-Chinese american . . . doh. my rather militant roommate says i might be selling out by silently promoting that all asians look the same by auditioning . . . a dilemma. ughhhhh . . . why couldn’t the decepticons attack a peaceful town of Japanese and Koreans who’ve reconciled their cultural and historical differences, where their children don’t have to struggle with their identity like i have to???? is that to much to ask????
my angry asian friends (and non-asian friends who care about me), what should i do?????
PS . . . if i do go in for the audition, i’m totally gonna greet them with bah weep grahnah weep ninibahn . . . if i don’t get the part over that, it’ll just mean i didn’t wanna partake in their crap movie anyway . . . ^^

The Ghetto Valentine’s Post
15 02 2008ahh yes . . . ya’ll are probably expecting me write another b&m (bitch and moan) blog on this most despised days for us single folk, but i’m not. ^^ today was actually a good day . . . cause i went to go see this:

haha yes, i went to go see it on opening night. go ahead and make fun, but i love stupid dance movies (stomp the yard, save the last dance, etc) . . . but this one had an exceptionally lame plot and bad writing. and it was a freaking cesspool of ethnic and cultural distortion. the main character was this little white girl who kept on insisting how “street” she was, AND there was a f.o.b. japanese girl thrown in the mix for comic relief. AAND the asian guy was introduced as the “techie”. they were both great dancers . . . but their characters certainly aren’t going to help combat the impotent nerd + perpetual foreigner image. AAAND the black characters were either “thug-ed out” or docile submissives. check out this post that i came across for a little more . . . jon chu – wft man?!?! i’m disappointed in you.
::done ranting:: the dance scenes were actually pretty sweet. man, i wish i could dance like that. maybe i should start taking hip-hop dance lessons . . . hmmm . . . and shhhhh, don’t tell anyone, but i’ve been secretly watching america’s best dance crew online . . . shhh . . .
continuing with our ghetto-fab post … here’s a video from baaack in the day. motown philly . . . ah yes. see that geno’s cheese steak in the back? yep, i’ve been there. quick trivia: did you know that the “authentic” way to get your cheese steak is with cheesewhiz???
and forgive my ignorance. but i just very recently realized: “abc bbd” stands for “another bad creation” and “bell biv devo”. i’m so lame . . . poison!
aaand the ghetto valentine’s day post continues! here’s a part of an email i got from sprint, giving me some text messaging ideas for someone special . . .

it’s the standard fare . . . QT314, BMINE . . . all until you get to the fourth one: LNWG … last night was great???!!! hahaha ahh … we are indeed a simple nation. but i’ll admit, i wouldn’t mind having isaac hayes whisper some sweet nothings to me right about now.
and now, i’m finishing the night sipping my hot water and listening to boyz II men. i’m doing just fine. not a bad valentine’s day . . . not a bad one at all.
peace,
chris

My First WordPress List
29 01 2008 1. NEW GLASSES
so you all know me and my ghetto self . . . my last pair of glasses started falling apart . . . but i wasn’t until both the side pieces fell off, numerous bouts of trying to super glue them back on, and finally wearing them as a “bi-monocle” for a week that i decided it was time to get some new ones. and they’re ecko. i feel so urban. ^^

2. LOST
ughhhh . . . my stomach has been cramping with excitement the last week over the upcoming season premier of lost (or maybe it was that questionable looking piece of bok choi that i ate off the ground). but seriously, i’m screaming like a little girl (on the inside) waiting for thursday night to arrive.
aaand … $20 says that the funeral that jack went to at the end of season three was sawyer’s.
3. ATTN: ALL MY KOREAN SPEAKING/READING FRIENDS
in case you did not know, i am a 5th generation korean american on my dad’s side. this makes me quite rare, and information on my family’s story is pretty scarce. one of my cohort members is an intervarsity minister from S Korean, and when i told him how long my family has been in the states he got スーパー excited. anyway . . . he started telling me about this historical novel series called Arirang (named after the folk-song) by Jungrae Cho. apparently, one of the characters has the same last name as my family . . . and immigrated to the states around when my family did. if anyone knows anything about this, please help a brotha out. 감사합니다.
4. IT’S BEEN A WHILE . . .
since i’ve walked out of a church. i won’t go into too much detail, but i got pretty offended at a local “hipster” church gathering, when they started throwing around everyone’s favorite Christian culture catchphrase: diversity. it a horrible feeling to be seen and treated as a novelty. i was one of maybe 5 people of color (and one of 2 asians amidst 120+ attendees) at a potluck where every kind of casserole under the sun was displayed. i came up with this phrase to describe the atmosphere of the church: “unique homogeny”
5. CLASSES FOR THE SEMESTER
here’s the list of classes i’ll be hacking my through over the next few months:
LEAD 576 – Applied Research & Evaluation
EDEV 590 – Program Planning, Management & Marketing
ECON 514 – Urban Economics (i LOVE economics … should have been an econ major …)
INST 576 – Urban Sociology (with prof. TONY CAMPOLO … haha)
well, that’s all for now.
next time: Why I’m Almost a Catholic (hopefully i’ll come up with a title with a little more wit to it).
pl&h,
chris
